"Storm" by Jae [3/09/06]

She had faced storms much worse - lightening that shattered trees and lit fire to the barn, winds that had torn out fences from the muddy ground, rain that created rivers in the field strong enough to pull her feet out from under her. But the castle in the storm twisted the weather around it and the dark magic that Ganondorf had pulled from the shadows tainted the air until her ears heard the hissing of unknown languages in the howling winds and shrieks of laughter in the booms of thunder. She stood at the window until her fingers curled from the cold - she told hersekf that it was for that reason she climbed back into her bed, and not because of the patterns of rain splatter she saw on the window glass.

"I couldn't sleep," she explained to Ganondorf's back and she parted the covers, "The thunder..."

He was awake, as he always seemed to be. He rolled over when she spoke, but did not reach for her. "Not frightened, surely."

"Not frightened," she shook her head, pausing as a crack of thunder shattered the night, "But this isn't like the storms over the farm."

"No," he conceded, "Something is causing this."

He still hadn't moved toward her, so Malon wiggled in next to him, pulling his arms around her, "You've upset someone again," she said with a short laugh, "The dragon? Or the goddesses? Or perhaps something else is dooming you now?"
